West Ham bid emotional farewell to Boleyn

Farewell to Boleyn

Following 112 years of football, West Ham United Football club said their final farewells to the Boleyn Ground with a 3-2 victory over Manchester United.

The Hammers came back from 2-1 down with just 15 minutes to play to steal the win in a thrilling encounter befitting the occasion. Fans were then treated to a 45 minute spectacular featuring players past and present, paying tribute to the ground they called home for so many years.

Among the previous West Ham footballers to return to Upton Park were Paolo Di Canio, Martin Peters and Sir Trevor Brooking, who were joined on the pitch by the club’s current squad. Throughout the night’s proceedings, the Hammers faithful sung with exuberant pride for the last time in the Boleyn stands with ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ inciting emotion from the sternest of supporters.

On a day of celebrations, fans were quick to pick-up souvenirs for the historic event with the official 118-page ‘Farewell Boleyn’ match day programme all but selling out on the night.

In consultation with West Ham United, ProgrammeMaster has since ordered a re-print of the special edition publication to ensure no fans are left disappointed.
