The 2016 Betway Premier League Darts concluded in London’s O2 Arena with the world number one, Michael Van Gerwen, lifting the title for the second time in his career.
Having finished the series top of the league, the Dutch professional made no mistake in claiming the League and Championship double, beating Phil Taylor 11-3 in the final.
Fans were in full voice at the sold-out event, turning up in the usual array of colours and costumes to watch the Premier League’s top four go head-to-head for the title.
First up it was Van Gerwen against the league’s fourth placed finisher Adrian Lewis, where the Englishman failed to pick up any momentum and went down 10-4 to the Dutch master.
In the other semi-final, the current World Champion, Gary Anderson, came up against the 16-time Champion, Phil Taylor.
The Scotsman fought back from 8-4 down to get within 1 leg of Taylor, however ‘The Power’ proved to be too strong, going on to win 10-7.
Van Gerwen looked to have a tough fight on his hands in the final, trailing 2-1 early on. However the World number one soon found his recent unstoppable form and went on to take five straight legs on his way to clinching the match 11-3.
In addition to the trophy, the Dutchman pockets £200,000 for winning the Premier League event, adding to the £25,000 earned for finishing top of the league.
