Diving. It’s arguably the one element of football that fans despise the most however, it may soon become somewhat of a rarity under new regulations from the Football Association.
At Thursday’s Annual General Meeting, new rules were passed to introduce a review panel which will examine a weekend’s fixtures, looking for circumstances where players have benefited from the “successful deception of a match official.”
The panels will consist of one former match official, an ex-manager and an ex-player, and will require a unanimous judgement to identify a dive.
In situations where the deception has led to a penalty or a red card, the guilty parties will face punishment for the act.
